The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Council will be showcasing its ‘go cycle’ Programme at this year’s Kingston Bike Festival on Sunday 2 August. The Programme is using funding from the Mayor of London and Transport for London to deliver ten cycling infrastructure schemes and public realm improvements across the borough over the next few years. The Programme includes a number of innovative ideas that aim to make bike riders in the borough feel safer, but bring benefits to all people, whether they’re on a bike, on foot, or in a car.
The ‘go cycle’ team will be at the Kingston Bike Festival and want to speak to as many people as possible to explain more about the Programme and gather as much support from local people as possible. They will be on corner of Clarence Street and Memorial Square in the town centre all day, and welcome everyone to come along.
If you’re unable to make it along on Sunday, you can still get behind the Programme by pledging your support online. Just click on this link, answer a few quick questions and agree to carry out a few simple actions. You’ll become one of a number of ‘go cycle’ advocates and receive some free goodies which will allow you to show that you’re supporting cycling in Kingston.
The council is really keen on using social media to help spread the word about the ‘go cycle’ Programme and would like your help. To encourage people to use the hashtag #goCycle, the council is running a photography competition. All you have to do is tweet a picture like the one below with the caption ‘Hi @RBKingston. #goCycle to [location]’, or post to the council Facebook page saying ‘Hi Kingston Council. #goCycle to [location]’, and you could be in with a chance of winning some Evans Cycles vouchers. Entries will be judged after the Kingston Bike Festival.

The Kingston Bike Festival is run in tandem with the Prudential RideLondon event, making Sunday 2 August an action packed day of cycling fun with a carnival style atmosphere. Kingston is the best place to watch the RideLondon cyclists on their 100 mile journey, as it is the only point along the whole route where they pass on both the outbound and inbound route. See you there!
